MRI scheduling for outpatient imaging centers

Fill the MRI slots cancellations leave behind.

Cancellations happen every day. Most of those openings stay empty while other patients wait weeks for a scan. We're building a simple way to offer each opening to the patients who can actually take it.

What we keep hearing from imaging teams

This fall we spoke with schedulers, technologists and managers at imaging centers across North Carolina. A few things came up again and again.

Cancellations come in daily

Many arrive right after the 24-hour reminder text. That's a day's warning, and it usually goes unused.

Open slots just wait

Most centers we spoke with have no formal way to fill a cancellation. The slot waits for a new order or a patient to call.

Patients want earlier scans

One scheduler told us most of her calls are patients asking for an earlier MRI. The demand is there. The match isn't.

How we're designing it

Simple to start, with no system integration required. We're shaping it with imaging teams before it's finished.

  1. 1

    Share tomorrow's schedule

A daily export from the system you already use. Nothing to install.

  2. 2

    See who fits each opening

For every open slot, a short list of waiting patients who fit: authorization, scanner, contrast and nurse hours, implants.

  3. 3

    Approve, and we text them

The top matches get a text. The first to say yes gets the slot. No double-booking, and staff approve every offer.

About PEMdical

PEMdical is based in Charlotte, North Carolina. It was founded by Dr. Elnaz Shokrollahi, a biomedical engineer with a PhD in medical robotics from the University of Toronto, and Dr. Peyman Shokrollahi, co-founder and CTO, who works on AI for radiology.

We started by trying to predict which patients wouldn't show up. Talking with imaging teams taught us that a prediction alone doesn't fill a slot. Now we're focused on what does: getting the right patient into the right opening, in time.
